Alums Under 30

COMM BA alums named to Forbes Top 30 Under 30 list and Terrapin Club Top 30 Under 30 list

Three COMMTerps have recently been named to exclusive "Top 30 Under 30" lists.

Amber Mayfield received a B.A. in Communication from Maryland in 2014. Mayfield was named to the Forbes Top 30 Under 30 roster in the category of Media: "While working as an assistant at Bravo TV, Amber Mayfield fell in love with the storytelling that surrounds the food industry but didn't see a space carved out for people who looked like her. So at 23, she launched her then-side hustle To Be Hosted, a dinner series designed to highlight young Black chefs, artists, and musicians. Since then, To Be Hosted has grown into a full-service event agency that specializes in dinners and food-focused events, with clients including Nestle, Del Monte, Bulleit, Equinox, Netflix, WE TV and Facebook. In 2020, Mayfield expanded her work to include a yearly magazine, founding While Entertaining Magazine, and a paid subscription-based newsletter for food enthusiasts."

Leo Dassa received a B.A. in Communication from Maryland in 2015. Dassa was named to the 2022 Class of Top 30 Under 30 alums by the University's Terrapin Club: "Leo Dassa is a Cybersecurity professional working in Enterprise Sales. Part time, he holds his Massachusetts Real Estate License and has a sales consulting business, YAD Consulting. During his time at the University of Maryland, Dassa held various internships ranging from the Office of Inspector General, Maryland Athletics Public Relations Department, Viener Consulting, Kinetics Marketing and many others. At Maryland, Dassa holds a negotiations seminar each semester for his favorite undergraduate class and instructor, Professor Edelstein, who teaches negotiations. Living in Boston, Dassa embodies being a Terp in honor of his brother who fought stage 4 cancer, by volunteering his time at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute."

Alex Kalter received a B.A. in Communication from Maryland in 2017. Kalter started out as an intern for Alliant Staffing during his senior year at the University of Maryland. That internship turned into a full-time job offer as a healthcare recruiter and he has now been with Nurses PRN, formerly Alliant Staffing, for more than five years. Kalter is now the Vice President of Account Management and manages a team of 11 people. Kalter's team has played a major part in keeping hospitals throughout the country staffed during the pandemic and he is proud to work for such an outstanding company with great core values. During his free time, Kalter enjoys visiting College Park for tailgates, football, and basketball games!
