Annie Laurie Nichols
Originally from Ithaca, New York, Annie Laurie earned a B.A. in Communication from Roberts Wesleyan College. Her research, including extensive field work in Azerbaijan, builds on theorists such as Kenneth Burke and Antonio Gramsci to understand how marginalized groups rhetorically construct their identities and cultures. Prior to joining the Ph.D. program at the University of Maryland, she spent more than a decade as a professional freelance and in-house graphic designer and brand strategist. She also honed her intercultural communication skills during four years in Saint Petersburg, Russia as a corporate trainer and EFL teacher.
