Professional Interests: 

Junqiao Chen, is a second-year student in Graduate Studies in Interpreting and Translation in the Department of Communication. Having been trained to become a professional interpreter since the beginning of 2016-2017 academic year, she has greatly developed her skills in sight translation, consecutive interpreting and simultaneously interpreting with passion for languages and devotion to communicate professionally. Prior to pursuing her master's degree at the University of Maryland, she tutored Chinese at an American host family for 2 years from 2014-2016 and worked part-time as an English teacher in Tianjin New Oriental, one of the most prestigious educational institutions in China for about 3 years from 2011 to 2014 when she was also an undergraduate English major in Tianjin University of Commerce and a Mechanic English major at Tianjin Sino-German University of Applied Science. During her college years, she took on many student service jobs: she was the minister for Campus Culture, the president for Student Union, and the monitor for her class. Those service jobs gave her opportunities to address different groups of people at lectures, interviews, competitions etc. Her public speaking skills came naturally and was further enhanced by taking advanced public speaking course. Junqiao Chen now is the Teaching Assistant for COMM107.
