Assistant Professor Lindsey Anderson has received a 2016 Elevate Faculty Fellowship from the University of Maryland's Teaching and Learning Transformation Center (TLTC). Elevate Fellows participate in a yearlong program to redesign one of their undergraduate courses to include innovative and research-based teaching and learning strategies. Through course redesign, Elevate Fellows improve student learning and success. Fellows are funded by the University System of Maryland and a small matching fund from their department.

Nan Part of $4.5 Million DOE Grant

Dr. Xiaoli Nan, Director of the University of Maryland Center for Health and Risk Communication and Associate Professor of Communication Science in the Department of Communication, is part of a multidisciplinary research team that has been awarded a competitive $4.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E) to study the provision of personalized, real-time traveler information designed to incentivize energy-efficient travel behaviors.

The largest major in the College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU), Communication is the tenth most popular major at the University of Maryland, according to 2017 data from UM's Office for Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment. And of the nearly 2,300 students enrolled in an ARHU major, 33% (about one-third) are Communication majors.
