Assistant professor Xiaoli Nan has received a $150,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to study health communication messages associated with the HPV vaccine.

Nan's 2-year project will develop communication interventions aimed at improving acceptance of adolescent HPV vaccination for the prevention of cervical cancer among caregivers of African-American girls aged 9-17.

Maddux Receives Book Awards

Assistant professor Kristy Maddux has received the 2011 Outstanding Book Award from the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender. Maddux also received the 2011 Religious Communication Book Award, given by the Religious Communication Association. The awards are for The Faithful Citizen: Popular Christian Media and Gendered Civic Identities published by Baylor University Press.

Professor & chair, Elizabeth Toth, is the co-author of the 4th edition of Public Relations: The Profession and the Practice. The classic text is published by McGraw-Hill and is co-authored by Dan Lattimore, Otis Baskin, Suzette Heiman, and James Van Leuven.
