Graduate Student Achievements, 2014-2015:
Julia Daisy Fraustino received a Top Moeller Student Paper from the Mass Communication and Society Division at AEJMC, a Top Teaching Paper from the Public Relations Division at AEJMC, a Top Student Paper from the Public Relations Division at NCA, and co-authored a Best Faculty Paper from the Public Relations Division at ICA.
Elizabeth Gardner received the Benson-Campbell Award in support of her dissertation research from the Public Address Division at NCA. Elizabeth also was selected for the NCA Doctoral Honors Seminar in 2014.
Will Howell was a James L. Golden Award Laureate at NCA.
Irina Iles and Bo Yang were co-authors of one of the Top Papers in Health Communication at NCA. Irina Iles was also a co-author on a Top Paper Panel in Health Communication at ECA and she received the Graduate School’s Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award.
Amanda Kennedy will present one of the Best Student Papers in the Public Relations Division at ICA.
Jessica Lu was selected for the NCA Doctoral Honors Seminar in 2014.
Rong Ma received the Top Student Paper award from the Intercultural Communication Division at ECA.
Stephanie Madden was on the Top Paper Panel for the Communication & Law Division at NCA. Stephanie also received the 2015 ECA Centennial Scholarship.
Thomas McCloskey received the Top Paper Award from the Political Communication Division at NCA.
Josie Moore was on the Top Student Papers Panel of the Theatre, Film, and New Multi-Media Division at NCA.
Timothy Penn was on the Top Student Paper panel at the Public Relations Division at NCA.
Janna Soeder was on the Top Student Papers Panel of the Theatre, Film, and New Multi-Media Division at NCA.
Michael Steudeman received the Top Paper Award from the Rhetoric and Public Address Division at ECA. Michael also received a Graduate Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship from the Graduate School at UM.
Bo Yang and Xinyan Zhao will present a Health Communication Media Effects Top Paper Entry at ICA.
The following students were selected to participate in the bi-annual Rhetoric Society of America Summer Institutes and Workshops in Madison, Wisconsin: Rebecca Alt, Elizabeth Gardner, Thomas McCloskey, Annie‐Laurie Nichols, Jade Olson, Devin Scott, and Meridith Styer.
The Department also had three students who received awards at the University’s annual Graduate Research Interaction Day event: Stephanie Madden, Timothy Penn, and Michael Steudeman. Other participating students included Megan Fitzmaurice, Michelle Futerfas, Kimberely J. Hannah, Will Howell, Devin Scott, and Bo Yang.
