Parry-Giles Presents Research at 13th Biennial Public Address Conference
Professor and director of graduate studies Shawn J. Parry-Giles joined just ten other scholars of rhetoric and public address to present plenary research presentations at the 13th Biennial Public Address Conference. Hosted by the University of Memphis, the conference was held September 27-29.
Parry-Giles' research, co-authored with David Kaufer of Carnegie-Mellon University, is entitled "Lincoln Reminiscences and Presidential Character Judgment: Debating the Sovereignty of the Common Man in U.S. Political Culture." An essay on Lincoln reminiscences by Parry-Giles & Kaufer also appeared as the lead essay in the Summer 2012 issue of Rhetoric & Public Affairs.
Also participating in the program of the 13th Biennial Public Address Conference was Professor Shirley Logan of UM's English Department and Ph.D. alumna Belinda Stillion Southard, now at the University of Georgia. UM's Department of Communication played host to the 9th Biennial Public Address Conference in 2004.
